The Royal Alfred is the oldest Freemasons Lodge in Guildford having been active since 1859. We are a small lodge who pride ourselves on enjoying our Masonry and each other’s company. Weekly informal meetings are held on Thursdays, throughout the year from September to May starting at 7.30pm to practice for 1 ½ hours then we usually retire to the bar to socialise. The Lodge tries to maintain its historic high standards by these regular informal get togethers which allow Members to learn more about Masonry and develop their knowledge at their own pace. Our 5 formal meetings are held on the third Thursdays of October, November, January, March, and May.
Our Membership currently may be small, post Covid, but we are enthusiastic and friendly and welcome new Members and Candidates. We meet in the purpose built Masonic Centre in Weybourne House in Guildford, which has on-site parking and is located on the River Wey.
We have regular social events throughout the year so that our Wives and Partners are included. This gives us the opportunity of introducing friends or colleagues to the Lodge. Events include Carveries usually on Sundays, Bowls, and Dinner Dances as well as the occasional Barbeque, off site Bar Skittles and weekends away. The Lodge of Instruction also has a tradition of a Masonic Christmas Bangers and Mash evening which follows a “themed demonstration” which many Visitors attend and enjoy. We support local and national charities, and for a small lodge we try to make a difference. We also care for the lodge widows, so that they are not forgotten.
